Meet Our Team of Indonesia Specialists

The Private Island Bali experience is curated by a team with over 80 years of combined experience in their respective fields. Our collective expertise spans ultra-luxury hospitality, maritime logistics across 17 of Indonesia’s 38 provinces, and bespoke travel design. We were founded on the principle that true luxury in Indonesia requires more than just access; it demands a mastery of the archipelago’s beautiful complexities, from monsoon wind patterns to inter-island supply chains. We are not just planners; we are architects of memorable experiences, grounded in deep, local knowledge. Our rigorous internal standards, including a 150-point partner vetting process, are outlined in our Editorial Standards. Bali tourism portal

Arya Wirawan

Role: Director of Operations

Credentials: M.H.M. (Master of Hospitality Management) from STP NHI Bandung (Class of 2005); Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA); 15+ years experience, including managing a team of over 200 staff with Aman Resorts and Four Seasons in Indonesia.

Bio: Arya is the logistical heart of Private Island Bali. Having managed remote luxury properties from Sumba to the Raja Ampat archipelago—over 1,500 miles apart—he has an unparalleled understanding of high-end service delivery. His expertise is critical in navigating the nuances of local regulations, from securing Izin Lokasi (location permits) for exclusive beach setups to coordinating with port authorities (Syahbandar) in remote harbours like Sorong for Raja Ampat expeditions. Arya personally oversees the annual vetting of over 40 properties, vessels, and partners, ensuring they meet our exacting 150-point methodology. When vetting a partner villa, his inspection covers everything from backup generator capacity—essential during intermittent power outages—to the specific thread count of the linens. His relationships with local authorities are instrumental in ensuring seamless experiences for our clients.

Sari Dewi

Role: Head of Client Relations

Credentials: B.A. in International Relations, Universitas Gadjah Mada (2008); Glion Institute of Higher Education, Switzerland (Postgraduate Diploma in Hospitality Administration, 2010); Fluent in English, Indonesian, French, and Japanese (JLPT N1 Certified).

Bio: Sari is the primary architect of our clients’ journeys. With over 12 years of experience managing UHNW client portfolios in Geneva and Singapore, she brings a rare combination of cultural fluency and meticulous attention to detail. Sari excels at understanding unstated needs, having personally designed over 250 flawlessly executed itineraries with budgets often exceeding $100,000. A recent itinerary she designed involved coordinating a private jet landing at Denpasar (DPS), a discreet helicopter transfer to a clifftop estate in Uluwatu, followed by a seamless transition to the 65-metre phinisi Amandira for a ten-day diving expedition through the Alor Strait. Sari’s process involves detailed preference mapping, covering everything from dietary restrictions to preferred room temperature, ensuring a frictionless experience from arrival to departure. She believes true luxury is personal, ensuring every moment reflects the client’s vision.

Captain I Komang Sudira

Role: Director of Marine Operations

Credentials: Ahli Nautika Tingkat I (ANT I) – Master Mariner Class 1 License, Indonesian Maritime Academy; PADI Divemaster; 20 years experience navigating Indonesian waters, including as Captain for luxury Phinisi charters in Komodo and Raja Ampat.

Bio: Captain Komang is our authority on the seas, with over 150,000 nautical miles logged across the archipelago. His knowledge of Indonesia’s currents, weather patterns, and hidden anchorages is second to none. He has an intimate understanding of the seasonal challenges, such as navigating the strong tidal currents of the Linta Strait in Komodo during the peak dry season (June-September) versus planning safe passage through the Dampier Strait in Raja Ampat during the northwest monsoon (December-March). He is responsible for the operational excellence of our partner fleet of 12+ phinisi yachts. Captain Komang personally audits each vessel’s safety equipment and crew certifications, ensuring compliance with international SOLAS standards and local protocols. His audits are exhaustive, cross-referencing engine maintenance logs with manufacturer specifications and ensuring all crew hold valid Buku Pelaut (Seaman’s Books) and STCW certifications.

Isabelle Chen

Role: Culinary Director & Sommelier

Credentials: Le Cordon Bleu Paris, Grand Diplôme® (2009); WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines (2012); Former Head Sommelier for Les Amis, a Michelin 3-star restaurant in Singapore, where she managed a cellar of over 3,000 labels.

Bio: Isabelle curates the gastronomic dimension of the Private Island Bali experience. She works with a handpicked team of private chefs, sourcing ingredients from over 30 local farms to create bespoke menus. Her logistics network is capable of air-freighting highly perishable goods like Japanese A5 Wagyu or Kaluga Queen caviar to remote destinations within 24 hours. From a fresh seafood barbecue to a formal 7-course wine-pairing dinner, Isabelle ensures the culinary journey is striking. She maintains a 1,500-bottle, 13°C climate-controlled cellar in Bali, with logistics to provision even the most remote islands. The cellar includes allocations of sought-after producers like Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Screaming Eagle, all maintained at a precise 13°C and 70% humidity. For a recent client, she arranged a vertical tasting of Penfolds Grange aboard a yacht anchored in a Flores bay, a feat of planning and preservation.

Dr. Bayu Pratama

Role: Cultural & Environmental Advisor

Credentials: Ph.D. in Marine Biology, Universitas Udayana; Advisor to The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Indonesia; Published author on Balinese cultural heritage.

Bio: Dr. Pratama ensures that our operations are not only luxurious but also culturally sensitive and environmentally responsible. He advises our team on best practices for sustainable tourism, guides our philanthropic efforts, and develops unique cultural immersion programs for interested clients. This could mean arranging a private consultation with a Balinese high priest (Pedanda) to understand the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, or facilitating a low-impact visit to a traditional Tenganan village to witness the weaving of the sacred geringsing cloth. His expertise allows us to offer experiences that go beyond tourism, providing genuine insight into Indonesia’s rich biodiversity and ancient traditions. He is a key stakeholder in our commitment to creating a positive impact, as detailed on our Sustainability page. He also vets our partners’ waste management and water conservation practices, ensuring they align with our sustainability ethos.
